Selected Aspect of Sugar Market in African Region
The African region represents a very specific region in the world both from the production volume and production capacities distribution point of view. African production capacities, respectively
its production volume are significantly undersized in relation to the rest of the world. On the other hand, the production growth dynamics is above average. Another specific feature is the low level
of market concentration both at the level of individual countries producing sugar in Africa and also at the level of individual companies operating in the African region. African sugar production
(in total cc 12 mil. tones a year) relies on beet (13%) and cane sugar production (cc 83% of total production). African sugar market represents a significant challenge for the future of the global
sugar market, especially in relation to the constantly growing population, which is estimated to exceed four billion by the end
of the 21st century.

Africký region představuje z hlediska produkce cukru a distribuce produkčních kapacit velmi specifický region ve světě. Produkční kapacity, respektive vlastní objem produkce regionu jsou v poměru
ke zbytku světa značně poddimenzované. Nicméně dynamika růstu produkce cukru je v tomto regionu v porovnání se světem nadprůměrná. Dalším specifikem je pak relativně nízká úroveň koncentrace trhu,
a to jak z pohledu jednotlivých států, tak i z pohledu jednotlivých korporací operujících na africkém trhu. Africký trh se současným objemem produkce cukru na úrovni necelých 12 mil. t se opírá
jak o produkci cukru řepného (13 % celkové produkce), tak i o produkci cukru třtinového (cca 83 %). Africký trh představuje z hlediska budoucnosti cukerního trhu velkou výzvu zejména ve vztahu
k neustále rostoucí populaci, která by mohla dle některých odhadů na konci století přesáhnout čtyři miliardy lidí.
