The paper describes the importance of sugar cane cultivation for the agricultural production of the Republic of Cuba. The text describes the history of sugar cane cultivation and its importance
for the Cuban economy, especially in relation to the developments after 2000.
In the past Cuba was one of the world's most important producers of cane sugar; however the developments after 1959 and subsequently after 1989 led to a completely opposite trend.
The paper captures the main trends and factors that have led to the decline in sugar cane and sugar production after 2000.

s ohledem na vývoj po roce 2000. Kuba v minulosti patřila mezi nejvýznamnější světové producenty cukru vyráběného z cukrové třtiny, nicméně vývoj po roce 1959 a následně po roce 1989 vedl
k naprosto opačnému trendu. V textu jsou zachyceny hlavní trendy a faktory, které vedly k poklesu pěstování cukrové třtiny a výroby cukru po roce 2000.
