Czech Foreign Trade with Sugar During the 2018–2022 Crisis
The article aims to identify the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic and the overall geopolitical tension on the market in sugar and sugar products of the Czech Republic within the EU. The examined period
begins in 2018, i.e., a year before the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic and ends in the middle of 2022. The data was drawn from the Czech Statistical Office database. As part of the analytical part,
methods and indices are used that evaluate the Czech flows of exports and imports within the framework of trade relations with the EU 28. The methods used include, for example, the Lafay index or
the Grubel-Lloyd index. The results of the analysis show that the entire HS 17 aggregation (Sugar and confectionery) shows a positive average year-on-year growth rate, both for exports and imports.
From the point of view of comparative advantages, the comparative advantage was most demonstrated in the subgroups HS 1701 (Cane and beet sugar) and HS 1704 (Confectionery without cocoa).
Furthermore, it can be stated that despite the Covid-19 pandemic and the overall period of crisis, in the case of the Czech Republic, or its sugar trade there were no significant fluctuations,
and the sugar market still shows a high degree of stability, which is typical for the food market.
Článek si klade za cíl identifikovat dopad pandemie onemocnění Covid-19 způsobené virem SARS-CoV-2 a celkového geopolitického napětí na trh s cukrem a cukrovarnickými produkty České republiky v rámci EU.
Zkoumané období začíná rokem 2018, tedy rok před vypuknutí pandemie Covid-19, a končí v polovině roku 2022. Data byla čerpána z databáze Českého statistického úřadu. V rámci analytické části jsou použity
metody a indexy, které vyhodnocují toky exportů a importů ČR v rámci obchodních vztahů s EU-28. Mezi použité metody patří např. Lafayův index nebo Grubel-Lloyd index. Z výsledků analýzy vyplývá, že celá
agregace HS 17 (Cukr a cukrovinky) vykazuje kladné průměrné meziroční tempo růstu, a to jak u exportů, tak importů. Z hlediska bilaterálních komparativních výhod byla jejich existence prokázána u subagregací
HS 1701 (Cukr třtinový a řepný) a HS 1704 (Cukrovinky bez kakaa). Dále lze konstatovat, že i přes pandemii Covidu-19 a celkové období krize nedošlo v případě České republiky, resp. jejího obchodu
s cukrem k výrazným výkyvům a trh s cukrem vykazuje stále velkou míru stability, což je typické pro potravinářský trh.
